Steven Kok is an artist and practicing architect. He likes to work with two main techniques; the almost exact and repeatable process of monochrome lino print making and, in stark contrast, the deliberately accidental and chance picture-making methods of pours, dripped acrylics and collage.
The two explore equally differing outcomes. His printing follows the art tradition of story telling through semiotics; whereas with his pour paintings, the story is discovered through pattern and form recognition as the paint settles into unpredictable compositions. Thematically, his recent works explore a fascination with the concept of the permanent juxtaposed with the momentary and ephemeral. These often result in a series of abstract and dissolving landscapes that are punctuated with the use of primary colours.
Steven has recently held his first solo exhibition and has featured in Warchild's Secret 7s.
The works available at Yes! will be a selection of original canvas paintings alongside some hand pulled lino cut prints.
