Charlotte Bracegirdle moved to London in 2004 to study at the royal college of art and has since been making her work and raising her son. Charlotte is a strong believer in the importance of art as a therapy and getting it back in schools, which is why I want to get out there and draw people’s attention to how powerful art can be when it is fun, playful and still meaningful.
Charlotte started My Paper Bag Life in 2024 with the idea floating around since lockdown. Inspired by Saul Steinberg’s paper bag portraits from the 1960s, it is mostly performative art but the bags are exhibited on their own and as photographic evidence of the films. It also takes the form of a diary, where she draws her family, friends and cat portraits on bags.
Charlotte wants to make the portrait more accessible and more playful. Choose your expression, think about how you might wear your bag. And book your very own paper bag portrait.
