William Stok is an Italian artist whose graphic work is held in the collections of the Tate Gallery, the and the Victoria and Albert museum. To date he has had 52 personal exhibitions in museums.
His works are drawings coloured in soft pastel which were made on the tube, on the street and copied from magazine photos or TV shows. He began to do these drawings after an eye operation which stopped him reading on public transport so he chose to draw travellers instead. After this a friend asked him to meet to draw together and they made sketches of one another finding it was more interesting to use images from films on the television. Later the work came from his large collection of comic images changing the style to create more realistic images.
This type of work is very different from his abstract painting having the need to pursue storytelling.
