Hugh Hamshaw Thomas is a visual artist making large scale digital prints principally of Landscape via photography.
He is particularly known for his photographs of Highams Park Lake and Epping Forest in North East London.
Hamshaw Thomas’ interests lie in the idealisation of landscape in both its physical manipulation and its representation in Painting and Print.
Highams Park Lake was landscaped in the late 1790s by Humphry Repton, an important contributor to the English tradition of Landscape Gardening.
Hamshaw Thomas’ work appears as if pre-dating photography with associations to the Decorative Arts of this period, whereby it explores themes of memory, trace, nostalgia and cliché. This layering of past and present reveals how representation and the way we read the world is constructed from inherited cultural constructs.
At Yes! Art 2026, a framed artwork will be shown to demonstrate the work at a large scale while small prints will be available for sale under the banner of the Artists Support Pledge.
There will be a laptop displaying a wide variety of imagery that can be selected from and purchased/ordered on the day. There will also be postcards for sale.
