Originally trained in furniture design and manufacture at Guildhall University, Hilary Blackburn follows her curiosity and 'what ifs' for exploration and discovery. She enjoys working with a diverse range of materials and techniques that have developed from her 20 years experience working as an art & design technician/instructor at a sixth form college where she now works part time enabling her to focus more on her own artistic practice.
Her current series of mixed media paintings are inspired by old layered and peeling surfaces. The muted palette and many layers of paint and found ephemera enable excavation and discovery within the layers.
